Group retreat 2022

From 23.-26. August 2022, the Bomblies team went on their second retreat to the Husky-Lodge Muotathal. This year, we focused on good communication skills incl. several scientific writing- and story framing workshops.

In addition to the many well received writing workshops, there were also several other presentations, e.g. one of Tadeas (our new mathematician in the group). He talked about modeling and what it can do for us. Aditya held a presentation about moss, and showed us exciting possibilities with our new microscope.

Besides the heavy workload, we also had lots of fun and adventures. We were very lucky with the weather and could do all the planned outdoor activities. One afternoon, we took the steepest funicular railway in the world up to the village Stoos. Then we hiked from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock and enjoyed the beautiful weather and amazing views.

We also found time to try out the new climbing tower at the Husky-Lodge. Some of us discovered a new hobby!

On Friday afternoon, we took a hike to the far end of the Muota valley. The whole area is above caves (karst areal). There, one of the most pristine forests in the Alps has survived: the approximately 550-hectare Bödmerenwald. Parts of it have hardly ever been influenced by humans. A biologist and a spelunker from the Husky-Lodge came along and showed us a lot of interresting plants as well as unusual stone formations. We even could climb down to the Hölloch (hell hole). The Hölloch is one of the largest caves in the world (with more than 207 kilometers of explored length).
